Be a Nature Maestro!
SPEND A DAY IN GLACIER BAY, ALASKA!
Kids, parents, and educators, use an iPad and your imagination to create and share a day experience in Glacier Bay, Alaska.
Build audio-rich scenes called “Soundscapes,” using Christine Walker’s colorful illustrations, and Dennis Hysom’s animal and nature sounds recorded during the day in Glacier Bay, Alaska.
Be like Dennis! Compose, record, and share your unique Glacier Bay Soundscape using melodies, rhythms, and a two minute background ambience loop. Shake your iPad to erase your Soundscape and start again.
For the best audio experience, including stereo and panning, wear your headphones or earbuds. Pinch and zoom an animal to change its volume. Move an animal to the right or left to adjust its stereo effect. Use Compose to time when animals will sound in your Soundscape. For more fun, Record with Narration to mimic animal sounds or narrate a story about your Soundscape :)
Do you know what Glacier Bay animal makes a nest that can weight as much as a one-ton car, or which animal makes a distinctive whistling sound with its wings when it flies? To find out, listen to Dennis’s stories and fun facts. Glacier Bay provides environmental education, challenging memory games, and informational audio help for every button.
Animals and soundtracks in Glacier Bay include Humpback Whale, Steller Sea Lion, Harbor Seal, Bald Eagle, Barrow’s Goldeneye, Glaucous Gulls, Canada Goose, Glacier Calving, Cold Rain on Water, Humpback Whale Splash, and Humpback Whale Spout.

To bring Nature Maestro® Glacier Bay to life, 146 images were hand drawn by Christine, and 169 audio files were mixed and recorded by Dennis. All of the art is original and not clip art. All of the animal audio was recorded on location. A special thanks to Dr. John McCosker of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco for his assistance in reviewing the animal facts and scientific name pronunciations.
